Phase 1: Design Proposal and Research (20%)
Class 1 (Jan 19) - Course Introduction
- Lecture: How to write a Proposal
Class 2 (Jan 26) - Design Proposals Reviewed
- Timelines/Workback schedules
- Talk about Lateral/Vertical thinking
- Students are to work on their Proposals during class time
- Extend invitations for Class 4 presentations
Class 3 (Feb 2) - Design Proposals and Presentation Prep
- Lecture: Presentation Tips
Class 4 (Feb 9) - Present your Proposal
- Formal class presentation of their Proposal
- Students will present their chosen topic/theme and proper justification/rationale
- Students are to hand in a digital file of their respective presentation.
- Students are required to submit documentation of their process for grading (Process book+Blog)
- Students are required to hand in their final Proposal (printed and bound)
Phase 2: Concept Development/Visual Exploration (30%)
~ Research and explored a wide variety of ideas related to their project to determine an appropriate design direction for the next phase
Class 5 (Feb 16)
Class 6 (Feb 23)
March 2 - BREAK
Class 7 (Mar 9) - Phase 2 Final Presentation
- Students are to present three distinctly difference conceptual/visual directions
- Students must present adequate rationale/justification that a proper pathway/direction has been found
- Students are to hand in a digital file of their respective presentation.
- Students are required to submit documentation of their process for grading (Process book+Blog)
Phase 3: Project Development (25%)
~ Students are required to develop a visual, tangible prototype of their chosen direction/concept. Things to take into consideration: function and aesthetic
Class 8 (Mar 16)
Class 9 (Mar 23)
Class 10 (Mar 30) - Phase 3 Final Presentation
- Students are to present their visual prototypes. It is strongly recommended that 85-90% of the project is complete.
- Students must present adequate rationale/justification that a proper pathway/direction has been found
- Students are to hand in a digital file of their respective presentation.
- Students are required to submit documentation of their process for grading (Process book+Blog)
Phase 4: Project Refinement & Completion (25%)
~ Students are expected to refine and complete their projects
Class 11 (Apr 6)
Class 12 (Apr 13) - Phase 4 Final presentation
- Students are required to submit documentation of their process for grading (Process book+Blog)
- Students are to hand in a digital file of their respective presentation.
Class 13 (Apr 20) - OPTIONAL/TBA
PROCESS DOCUMENTATION:
Students are expected to hand in a bound process book at the end of each phase as well as an up-to-date process blog. Process books must be constructed according to class standards.
